he young Eric, age 3, receives a violin as a birthday present. His interest in the instrument led him to take private lessons. He joined the Montreal Conservatory at age 9 and graduated with a Bachelor of instrumentation. He then interned at the Orford Arts Centre in 2002 with Gene DiNovi and discovered the electric violin in 2003.
Early in his career, Eric made several incursions into the gypsy jazz, the folk, symphonic and electronica. He will be a member and manager of various groups such as No Parking, and EVO. In 2004, he participated in the film "Head in the Clouds" in which he played the famous jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli.
But it was in 2009 that Eric Speed made a grand entrance in Quebec landscape playing the violin at high speed during a broadcast on TVA, “On n’a pas toute la soirée” hosted by Eric Salvail. Audiences love his look and musical style and propelled him in the first place. The public voted again for him at the show called Sucré Salé (TVA) and Eric wins the grand finale of the show. A few weeks later, he launched an eponymous debut album which received several good reviews and became the best-selling independent of the year at Archambault Music.
